Poroshenko's political party, European Solidarity, said the former president had scheduled only meetings in Poland and the United States and warned the SBU security service against becoming involved in politics. Orban has frequently been at odds with Zelenskiy on several issues related to Ukraine's EU membership bid. European Solidarity, in its statement, called for dialogue with Orban who, it said, had a veto right over accession talks. Poroshenko, president from 2014 to 2019, accused Zelenskiy's administration on Friday of cancelling the permission and playing politics ahead of elections. REUTERS/Gleb Garanich/File Photo Acquire Licensing RightsKYIV, Dec 1 (Reuters) - Ukraine's ex-President Petro Poroshenko said he had been stopped from leaving the country on Friday morning in what he described as a politically motivated bid to disrupt his work. The Ukrainian parliament's deputy speaker, Oleksandr Korniyenko, later confirmed he had cancelled Poroshenko's permission to leave the country. Poroshenko said he had planned to travel to Poland to help negotiate an end to a truckers' blockade and then to the United States to build support for Ukraine's war effort. "This is an anti-Ukrainian diversion," Poroshenko wrote. "It is not just the hampering of my entire team's diplomatic work, but unfortunately a blow to Ukraine's defence capabilities."

His testimony sheds new light on how his office vetted the tip, and he disputed past Democratic claims that he “closed” the matter without recommending any further scrutiny. However, it doesn’t bolster the GOP narrative that Joe Biden or his son Hunter Biden were offered or accepted a bribe. The informant described his interactions with Mykola Zlochevsky, a Ukrainian oligarch and owner of the energy company Burisma, where Hunter Biden had served on the board. The saga of a once-trusted FBI informant bringing explosive but unverified claims about a presidential candidate is reminiscent of the Christopher Steele debacle in 2016. This time, the political roles are reversed: Republicans are championing the unproven bribery claims, as Democrats try to discredit the material.

U.S. President Joe Biden speaks during a meeting with the President's Council of Advisors on Science and Technology (PCAST) in San Francisco, California, U.S., September 27, 2023. Separately, they also allege the Justice Department interfered with a tax investigation of Hunter Biden. House Republicans have said they plan to seek personal and business bank records for Hunter Biden and James Biden, the president's brother. A prolonged shutdown could slow the impeachment inquiry as fewer administration officials would be available to respond to information requests. White House spokesman Ian Sams said House Republicans were prioritizing "conspiracy theories" over keeping the government open.

The White House says Biden has done nothing wrong and Republicans have no basis for an impeachment inquiry. Another Hunter Biden associate, Eric Schwerin, also told the panel that he was not aware of any financial involvement by Joe Biden in his relatives' businesses. A Washington Post fact check found that $7 million of that money went to Biden family members, most of it to Hunter, and none went to Joe Biden. PRESSURING UKRAINE'S PROSECUTORWhile serving as vice president, Biden pressured Ukraine to remove its top prosecutor, Viktor Shokin. Republicans and Shokin have separately said Biden was trying to protect Burisma and Hunter Biden from a possible corruption investigation.

Fed Chair Powell held a call with Russian pranksters pretending to be Ukrainian President Zelenskyy. "No sensitive or confidential information was discussed," a Fed spokesperson told Insider. Footage circulating on Russian State Television showed Powell answering an interviewer's questions, with the central bank head seemingly thinking he was speaking to Ukraine's leader. In a statement sent to Insider, a Fed spokesperson confirmed that Powell participated in a call with someone "who misrepresented himself" as the Ukrainian president in January. The phone call, which appears to have been carried out by Vladimir Kuznetsov and Alexei Stolyarov, covered a range of topics like Powell's inflation outlook and Russia's central bank, Bloomberg reported Thursday.
[1/4] Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskiy sings the national anthem during his visit in Kherson, Ukraine November 14, 2022. Nor does Russian President Vladimir Putin, who launched his "special military operation" in Ukraine on Feb. 24, 2022 and appears to be preparing for a long war. They underestimated his leadership qualities," said Volodymyr Fesenko, a Kyiv-based analyst who said Putin misjudged Zelenskiy. "(Putin) prepared a special operation not a full-fledged war ... because he thought Zelenskiy and the Ukrainian army were weak and that they would not be able to put up lengthy resistance. Anton Grushetsky, deputy director of the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology, put public trust in Zelenskiy at 70% to 80%.

REUTERS/Maria Alejandra CardonaNEW YORK, Nov 14 (Reuters) - No charges will be brought in a criminal investigation into business dealings in Ukraine by Rudy Giuliani, Donald Trump's former personal lawyer, the top U.S. prosecutor in Manhattan said in a court filing on Monday. In a sign that the investigation was winding down, FBI agents returned the seized electronic devices to Giuliani, his lawyer said in August. Giuliani, 78, also faces a state-level criminal investigation in Georgia over efforts by Trump and his allies to overturn his 2020 election loss to Biden. Giuliani in 2020 urged the state's lawmakers not to certify Biden's victory in Georgia. In August, Giuliani testified before a Fulton County grand jury after a judge ordered him to comply with a subpoena.
